Matthew 25:1–13 (The Living Bible) 1 “The Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by
the story of ten bridesmaids who took their lamps and went to meet the
bridegroom. 2 But only five of them were wise enough to fill
their lamps with oil, while the other five were foolish and forgot. 5
“So, when the bridegroom was delayed, they lay down to rest until midnight,
when they were roused by the shout, ‘The bridegroom is coming! Come out and
welcome him!’ 7 “All the girls jumped up and trimmed their lamps.
Then the five who hadn’t any oil begged the others to share with them, for
their lamps were going out. 9 “But the others replied, ‘We haven’t
enough. Go instead to the shops and buy some for yourselves.’ 10 “But
while they were gone, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in
with him to the marriage feast, and the door was locked. 11 “Later,
when the other five returned, they stood outside, calling, ‘Sir, open the door
for us!’ 12 “But he called back, ‘Go away! It is too late!’ 13
“So stay awake and be prepared, for you
do not know the date or moment of my return.
Psalm 145:8–21 (AMP) 8 The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and
abounding in mercy and loving-kindness. 9 The Lord is
good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works [the entirety of
things created]. 10 All Your works shall praise You, O Lord, and
Your loving ones shall bless You [affectionately and gratefully shall Your saints
confess and praise You]! 11 They
shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom and talk of Your power, 12 To
make known to the sons of men God’s mighty deeds and the glorious majesty of
His kingdom. 13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and Your
dominion endures throughout all generations. 14 The Lord upholds
all those [of His own] who are falling and raises up all those who are bowed
down. 15 The eyes of all wait for You [looking, watching, and
expecting] and You give them their food in due season. 16 You open
Your hand and satisfy every living thing with favor. 17 The Lord is
[rigidly] righteous in all His ways and gracious and merciful in all His
works. 18 The Lord is near to
all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him sincerely and in truth. 19
He will fulfill the desires of those who reverently and worshipfully
fear Him; He also will hear their cry and will save them. 20 The
Lord preserves all those who love Him, but all the wicked will He destroy. 21
My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord; and let all flesh bless
(affectionately and gratefully praise) His holy name forever and ever.

is to be interpreted by one’s own mind, 21 for no prophecy has
ever yet originated in man’s will, but men who were led by the Holy Spirit
spoke from God.]
