John 8:12–29 (The Living Bible) ¹² Later, in one of his talks, Jesus said to the people, “I am the Light of the world. So if you follow me, you won’t be stumbling through the darkness, for living light will flood your path.” ¹³ The Pharisees replied, “You are boasting—and lying!” ¹⁴ Jesus told them, “These claims are true even though I make them concerning myself. For I know where I came from and where I am going, but you don’t know this about me. ¹⁵ You pass judgment on me without knowing the facts. I am not judging you now; ¹⁶ but if I were, it would be an absolutely correct judgment in every respect, for I have with me the Father who sent me. ¹⁷ Your laws say that if two men agree on something that has happened, their witness is accepted as fact. ¹⁸ Well, I am one witness, and my Father who sent me is the other.” ¹⁹ “Where is your father?” they asked. Jesus answered, “You don’t know who I am, so you don’t know who my Father is. If you knew me, then you would know him too.” ²⁰ Jesus made these statements while in the section of the Temple known as the Treasury. But he was not arrested, for his time had not yet run out. ²¹ Later he said to them again, “I am going away; and you will search for me, and die in your sins. And you cannot come where I am going.” ²² The Jews asked, “Is he planning suicide? What does he mean, ‘You cannot come where I am going’?” ²³ Then he said to them, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not. ²⁴ That is why I said that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am the Messiah, the Son of God, you will die in your sins.” ²⁵ “Tell us who you are,” they demanded. He replied, “I am the one I have always claimed to be. ²⁶ I could condemn you for much and teach you much, but I won’t, for I say only what I am told to by the one who sent me; and he is Truth.” ²⁷ But they still didn’t understand that he was talking to them about God. ²⁸ So Jesus said, “When you have killed the Messiah, then you will realize that I am he and that I have not been telling you my own ideas, but have spoken what the Father taught me. ²⁹ And he who sent me is with me—he has not deserted me—for I always do those things that are pleasing to him.”

John 1:1–5 (CJB) ¹ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ² He was with God in the beginning. ³ All things came to be through him, and without him nothing made had being. ⁴ In him was life, and the life was the light of mankind. ⁵ The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not suppressed it.

John 12:44–50 (ESV) ⁴⁴ And Jesus cried out and said, “Whoever believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me. ⁴⁵ And whoever sees me sees him who sent me. ⁴⁶ I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. ⁴⁷ If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. ⁴⁸ The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day. ⁴⁹ For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment—what to say and what to speak. ⁵⁰ And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told me.”

But There Are Some of You Who Do Not Believe

John 6:59–63 (AMP) ⁵⁹ He said these things in a synagogue while He was teaching at Capernaum. ⁶⁰ When His disciples heard this, many of them said, This is a hard and difficult and strange saying (an offensive and unbearable message). Who can stand to hear it? [Who can be expected to listen to such teaching?] ⁶¹ But Jesus, knowing within Himself that His disciples were complaining and protesting and grumbling about it, said to them: Is this a stumbling block and an offense to you? [Does this upset and displease and shock and scandalize you?] ⁶² What then [will be your reaction] if you should see the Son of Man ascending to [the place] where He was before? ⁶³ It is the Spirit Who gives life [He is the Life-giver]; the flesh conveys no benefit whatever [there is no profit in it]. The words (truths) that I have been speaking to you are spirit and life.

John 3:5–12 (The Living Bible) ⁵ Jesus replied, “What I am telling you so earnestly is this: Unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God. ⁶ Men can only reproduce human life, but the Holy Spirit gives new life from heaven; ⁷ so don’t be surprised at my statement that you must be born again! ⁸ Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it will go next, so it is with the Spirit. We do not know on whom he will next bestow this life from heaven.” ⁹ “What do you mean?” Nicodemus asked. ¹⁰ Jesus replied, “You, a respected Jewish teacher, and yet you don’t understand these things? I am telling you what I know and have seen—and yet you won’t believe me. ¹²

John 6:64–7:3 (NASB95) ⁶⁴ “But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who it was that would betray Him. ⁶⁵ And He was saying, “For this reason I have said to you, that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted him from the Father.” ⁶⁶ As a result of this many of His disciples withdrew and were not walking with Him anymore. ⁶⁷ So Jesus said to the twelve, “You do not want to go away also, do you?” ⁶⁸ Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life. ⁶⁹ “We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God.” ⁷⁰ Jesus answered them, “Did I Myself not choose you, the twelve, and yet one of you is a devil?” ⁷¹ Now He meant Judas the son of Simon Iscariot, for he, one of the twelve, was going to betray Him. ¹ After these things Jesus was walking in Galilee, for He was unwilling to walk in Judea because the Jews were seeking to kill Him. ² Now the feast of the Jews, the Feast of Booths, was near. ³ Therefore His brothers said to Him, “Leave here and go into Judea, so that Your disciples also may see Your works which You are doing.

John 7:3–18 (The Living Bible) ³ and Jesus’ brothers urged him to go to Judea for the celebration. “Go where more people can see your miracles!” they scoffed. ⁴ “You can’t be famous when you hide like this! If you’re so great, prove it to the world!” ⁵ For even his brothers didn’t believe in him. ⁶ Jesus replied, “It is not the right time for me to go now. But you can go anytime and it will make no difference, ⁷ for the world can’t hate you; but it does hate me, because I accuse it of sin and evil. ⁸ You go on, and I’ll come later when it is the right time.” ⁹ So he remained in Galilee. ¹⁰ But after his brothers had left for the celebration, then he went too, though secretly, staying out of the public eye. ¹¹ The Jewish leaders tried to find him at the celebration and kept asking if anyone had seen him. ¹² There was a lot of discussion about him among the crowds. Some said, “He’s a wonderful man,” while others said, “No, he’s duping the public.” ¹³ But no one had the courage to speak out for him in public for fear of reprisals from the Jewish leaders. ¹⁴ Then, midway through the festival, Jesus went up to the Temple and preached openly. ¹⁵ The Jewish leaders were surprised when they heard him. “How can he know so much when he’s never been to our schools?” they asked. ¹⁶ So Jesus told them, “I’m not teaching you my own thoughts, but those of God who sent me. ¹⁷ If any of you really determines to do God’s will, then you will certainly know whether my teaching is from God or is merely my own. ¹⁸ Anyone presenting his own ideas is looking for praise for himself, but anyone seeking to honor the one who sent him is a good and true person.

Freely Forgive Your Brother From Your Heart

Philemon 11–16 (The Living Bible) ¹¹ Onesimus (whose name means “Useful”) hasn’t been of much use to you in the past, but now he is going to be of real use to both of us. ¹² I am sending him back to you, and with him comes my own heart. ¹³ I really wanted to keep him here with me while I am in these chains for preaching the Good News, and you would have been helping me through him, ¹⁴ but I didn’t want to do it without your consent. I didn’t want you to be kind because you had to but because you wanted to. ¹⁵ Perhaps you could think of it this way: that he ran away from you for a little while so that now he can be yours forever, ¹⁶ no longer only a slave, but something much better—a beloved brother, especially to me. Now he will mean much more to you too, because he is not only a servant but also your brother in Christ.

Luke 23:32–34 (CJB) ³² Two other men, both criminals, were led out to be executed with him. ³³ When they came to the place called The Skull, they nailed him to a stake; and they nailed the criminals to stakes, one on the right and one on the left. ³⁴ Yeshua said, “Father, forgive them; they don’t understand what they are doing.”

But Now I Have Told You How To Get This True Spiritual Life

John 6:47–52 (AMP) ⁴⁷ I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, he who believes in Me [who adheres to, trusts in, relies on, and has faith in Me] has (now possesses) eternal life. ⁴⁸ I am the Bread of Life [that gives life—the Living Bread]. ⁴⁹ Your forefathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and [yet] they died. ⁵⁰ [But] this is the Bread that comes down from heaven, so that [any]one may eat of it and never die. ⁵¹ I [Myself] am this Living Bread that came down from heaven. Everyone Who Has Heard and Learned From the Father Comes To Me

John 6:1–15 (The Living Bible) ¹ After this, Jesus crossed over the Sea of Galilee, also known as the Sea of Tiberias. ² And a huge crowd, many of them pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem for the annual Passover celebration, were following him wherever he went, to watch him heal the sick. So when Jesus went up into the hills and sat down with his disciples around him, he soon saw a great multitude of people climbing the hill, looking for him. Turning to Philip he asked, “Philip, where can we buy bread to feed all these people?” ⁶ (He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do.) ⁷ Philip replied, “It would take a fortune to begin to do it!” ⁸ Then Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up. “There’s a youngster here with five barley loaves and a couple of fish! But what good is that with all this mob?” ¹⁰ “Tell everyone to sit down,” Jesus ordered. And all of them—the approximate count of the men only was five thousand—sat down on the grassy slopes. ¹¹ Then Jesus took the loaves and gave thanks to God and passed them out to the people. Afterwards he did the same with the fish. And everyone ate until full! ¹² “Now gather the scraps,” Jesus told his disciples, “so that nothing is wasted.” ¹³ And twelve baskets were filled with the leftovers! ¹⁴ When the people realized what a great miracle had happened, they exclaimed, “Surely, he is the Prophet we have been expecting!” ¹⁵ Jesus saw that they were ready to take him by force and make him their king, so he went higher into the mountains alone.

John 6:16–24 (NKJV) ¹⁶ Now when evening came, His disciples went down to the sea, ¹⁷ got into the boat, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was already dark, and Jesus had not come to them. ¹⁸ Then the sea arose because a great wind was blowing. ¹⁹ So when they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near the boat; and they were afraid. ²⁰ But He said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” ²¹ Then they willingly received Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land where they were going. ²² On the following day, when the people who were standing on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, except that one which His disciples had entered, and that Jesus had not entered the boat with His disciples, but His disciples had gone away alone— ²³ however, other boats came from Tiberias, near the place where they ate bread after the Lord had given thanks— ²⁴ when the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they also got into boats and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.

John 6:25–36 (AMP) ²⁵ And when they found Him on the other side of the lake, they said to Him, Rabbi! When did You come here? ²⁶ Jesus answered them, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, you have been searching for Me, not because you saw the miracles and signs but because you were fed with the loaves and were filled and satisfied. ²⁷ Stop toiling and doing and producing for the food that perishes and decomposes [in the using], but strive and work and produce rather for the [lasting] food which endures [continually] unto life eternal; the Son of Man will give (furnish) you that, for God the Father has authorized and certified Him and put His seal of endorsement upon Him. ²⁸ They then said, What are we to do, that we may [habitually] be working the works of God? [What are we to do to carry out what God requires?] ²⁹ Jesus replied, This is the work (service) that God asks of you: that you believe in the One Whom He has sent [that you cleave to, trust, rely on, and have faith in His Messenger]. ³⁰ Therefore they said to Him, What sign (miracle, wonderwork) will You perform then, so that we may see it and believe and rely on and adhere to You? What [supernatural] work have You [to show what You can do]? ³¹ Our forefathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as the Scripture says, He gave them bread out of heaven to eat. ³² Jesus then said to them, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, Moses did not give you the Bread from heaven [what Moses gave you was not the Bread from heaven], but it is My Father Who gives you the true heavenly Bread. ³³ For the Bread of God is He Who comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world. ³⁴ Then they said to Him, Lord, give us this bread always (all the time)! ³⁵ Jesus replied, I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to Me will never be hungry, and he who believes in and cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me will never thirst any more (at any time). ³⁶ But [as] I told you, although you have seen Me, still you do not believe and trust and have faith.

John 6:37–51 (ESV) ³⁷ All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. ³⁸ For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. ³⁹ And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. ⁴⁰ For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.” ⁴¹ So the Jews grumbled about him, because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” ⁴² They said, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? I Am the Good Shepherd

There Is Salvation in No One Else!

Isaiah 5:1–7 (The Living Bible) ¹ Now I will sing a song about his vineyard to the one I love. My Beloved has a vineyard on a very fertile hill. ² He plowed it and took out all the rocks and planted his vineyard with the choicest vines. He built a watchtower and cut a winepress in the rocks. Then he waited for the harvest, but the grapes that grew were wild and sour and not at all the sweet ones he expected. ³ Now, men of Jerusalem and Judah, you have heard the case! You be the judges! ⁴ What more could I have done? Why did my vineyard give me wild grapes instead of sweet? ⁵ I will tear down the fences and let my vineyard go to pasture to be trampled by cattle and sheep. ⁶ I won’t prune it or hoe it, but let it be overgrown with briars and thorns. I will command the clouds not to rain on it anymore. ⁷ I have given you the story of God’s people. They are the vineyard that I spoke about. Israel and Judah are his pleasant acreage! He expected them to yield a crop of justice but found bloodshed instead. He expected righteousness, but the cries of deep oppression met his ears.

Matthew 21:33–44 (CJB) ³³ “Now listen to another parable. There was a farmer who planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a pit for the winepress and built a tower; then he rented it to tenants and left. ³⁴ When harvest-time came, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his share of the crop. ³⁵ But the tenants seized his servants—this one they beat up, that one they killed, another they stoned. ³⁶ So he sent some other servants, more than the first group, and they did the same to them. ³⁷ Finally, he sent them his son, saying, ‘My son they will respect.’ ³⁸ But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other, ‘This is the heir. This has come from Adonai, and in our eyes it is amazing’? ⁴³ Therefore, I tell you that the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to the kind of people that will produce its fruit!”

Mark 12:1–11 (ESV) ¹ And he began to speak to them in parables. “A man planted a vineyard and put a fence around it and dug a pit for the winepress and built a tower, and leased it to tenants and went into another country. ² When the season came, he sent a servant to the tenants to get from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. ³ And they took him and beat him and sent him away empty-handed. ⁴ Again he sent to them another servant, and they struck him on the head and treated him shamefully. ⁵ And he sent another, and him they killed. And so with many others: some they beat, and some they killed. ⁶ He had still one other, a beloved son. Finally he sent him to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ ⁷ But those tenants said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’ ⁸ And they took him and killed him and threw him out of the vineyard. ⁹ What will the owner of the vineyard do? Come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.’ ¹⁵ So they cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. Therefore what will the owner of the vineyard do to them? ¹⁶ He will come and destroy those vinedressers and give the vineyard to others.” And when they heard it they said, “Certainly not!” ¹⁷ Then He looked at them and said, “What then is this that is written: ‘The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone’ ? ¹⁸ Whoever falls on that stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder.”

Psalm 118:21–24 (NASB95) ²¹ I shall give thanks to You, for You have answered me, And You have become my salvation. ²² The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief corner stone. ²³ This is the Lord’s doing; It is marvelous in our eyes. ²⁴ This is the day which the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Isaiah 28:16–17 (The Living Bible) ¹⁶ But the Lord God says, “See, I am placing a Foundation Stone in Zion—a firm, tested, precious Cornerstone that is safe to build on. He who believes need never run away again. ¹⁷ I will take the line and plummet of justice to check the foundation wall you built; it looks so fine, but it is so weak a storm of hail will knock it down! The enemy will come like a flood and sweep it away, and you will be drowned.
