Proverbs 20:9 (AMP) 9 Who can say, I
have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?
Psalm 51:1–7 (NASB95) 1 Be gracious to me, O
God, according to Your lovingkindness; According to the greatness of Your
compassion blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity And cleanse me from my sin. 3
For I know my transgressions, And my sin is ever before me. 4 Against
You, You only, I have sinned And done what is evil in Your sight, So that You
are justified when You speak And blameless when You judge. 5 Behold,
I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me. 6
Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being, And in the hidden part You
will make me know wisdom. 7 Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be
clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Jeremiah 33:7–9 (NASB95) 7 ‘I will restore the
fortunes of Judah and the fortunes of Israel and will rebuild them as they were
at first. 8 ‘I will cleanse
them from all their iniquity by which they have sinned against Me, and I will
pardon all their iniquities by which they have sinned against Me and by which

2 Corinthians 6:14–7:1 (The Living Bible)14 Don’t be teamed with those who do not love the Lord, for what do
the people of God have in common with the people of sin? How can light live
with darkness? 15 And what harmony can there be between Christ and
the devil? How can a Christian be a partner with one who doesn’t believe? 16
And what union can there be between
God’s temple and idols? For you are God’s temple, the home of the living God,
and God has said of you, “I will live in them and walk among them, and I will
be their God and they shall be my people.” 17 That is why the Lord
has said, “Leave them; separate yourselves from them; don’t touch their filthy
things, and I will welcome you 18 and be a Father to you, and you
will be my sons and daughters.” 1 Having such great promises as
these, dear friends, let us turn away from everything wrong, whether of body or
spirit, and purify ourselves, living in the wholesome fear of God, giving
ourselves to him alone.
2 Timothy 2:19–26 (NASB95) 19 Nevertheless, the
firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are
His,” and, “Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness.”
20 Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels,
but also vessels of wood and of earthenware, and some to honor and some to
dishonor. 21 Therefore, if
anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for
honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work. 22
Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace,
with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. 23 But refuse
foolish and ignorant speculations, knowing that they produce quarrels. 24
The Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to
teach, patient when wronged, 25 with gentleness correcting those who
are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the
knowledge of the truth, 26 and they may come to their senses and
escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do
his will.
Hebrews 9:11–15 (NASB95) 11 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good
things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect
tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation; 12
and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all,
having obtained eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of goats and
bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled sanctify
for the cleansing of the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of
Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God,
cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 15
For this reason He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that, since a death
has taken place for the redemption of the transgressions that were committed
under the first covenant, those who have been called may receive the
promise of the eternal inheritance.
James 4:3–10 (The Living Bible) 3 And even when you do ask you don’t get it because your whole aim
is wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure. 4 You are
like an unfaithful wife who loves her husband’s enemies. Don’t you realize that making friends with God’s enemies—the evil
pleasures of this world—makes you an enemy of God? I say it again, that if
your aim is to enjoy the evil pleasure of the unsaved world, you cannot also be
a friend of God. 5 Or what do you think the Scripture means when it
says that the Holy Spirit, whom God has placed within us, watches over us with
tender jealousy? 6 But he gives us more and more strength to stand
against all such evil longings. As the Scripture says, God gives strength to
the humble but sets himself against the proud and haughty. 7 So give yourselves humbly to God. Resist
the devil and he will flee from you. 8 And when you draw close to
God, God will draw close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and let your
hearts be filled with God alone to make them pure and true to him. 9
Let there be tears for the wrong things you have done. Let there be sorrow and
sincere grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of
joy. 10 Then when you realize your worthlessness before the Lord, he
will lift you up, encourage and help you.
